Thats probably because its a super zoom.

A superzoom is basically a compromise for portability and usability over performance.

Its difficult to make a really good superzoom and hence all superzooms suffer from distortions, CA, and corner softness (The good ones show lesser aberrations).

So the Canon 18-135mm IS is a decent zoom which generally sharp centers. However corner performance is lacking and hence it gets panned. However do note that most photos benefit from having sharp centers only and corners are not very relevant (except maybe landscape photography).

The high price is a stumbling factor though as a 18-55mm + 55-250mm IS will be a sharper combination at a cheaper price but you will lose the convenience factor.
thanks again:)
so that means if given a choice i must stick to the combo that im taking .. changing lens is ok if its worth the pic and money

any other lens for low light .
btw how much zoom will the 250 give me ??

You have to forget the 2x, 3x, 4x zoom when it comes to interchangeable lens camera. The P&S cams have this because their lenses have a fized focal length for min and max zooms and you can then have a multiplier factor. But when changing lenses this cannot apply. For example my lowest focal length is 10mm on my 10-20mm lens and max is 500mm on my 150-500mm lens. So can I say I have a cam with 50X zoom?
Here 250mm is 250mm. The lens will give you reach from 55-250mm focal length. Call it 4.5x if you like. Or call it 28.8X since you will have a 18mm kit lens. I am not sure which of these if either will be correct.

for you simplicity to calculate the zoom of a lens devide the maximum focal length by its short focal length.

If you want to know the effective focal length then multiply the respective focal length by the crop factor of that camera.

As Canon has smaller sensor so the crop factor is 1.6x, so 250 x 1.6 = 400mm.

thank u
so after doing the decision 250 divide by 55 = 4.5   is this the zoom that i will get from the lens?

Some Tamron/Sigma lenses are really good but some are run of the mill. But the cost of the latter is low too. Basically one gets what one pays for. And yes 600D will be able to use them. Just buy the Canon mount version.
