Ram I just came across a few high ISO pics from the D800 and they were truly impressive, usable at ISO 6400 also. If I were starting again then Nikon would have been a no brainier, $3000 for this cam is a steal. I'm guessing even if they priced it at $4000 there would sell loads of them.

Not surprisingly the canon CEO quit cause they're sales we're down. The 70 yr old got replaced by a 76 yr old

. Expect the 5D2 succesor to have the same archaic AF system as the 5D2....

its because they have to replace it with another filter.I read this on Nikon site somewhere . D800 is already a very specialized camera ,and D800E is for people ,who are coming from Medium format .
expect low availability, and price difference of about Rs 20-25K between D800 and D800E in India .

yes they are ok at high iso ,but there was lot of chroma noise even at 3200 iso ,but what else we can expect from 36MP cam.

As of now I expect D800 to be priced at 1.60 lakhs and D800E to be priced at about 1.8 lakhs [MRP] .Street price will be slightly less .

Plus many will have to upgrade their pc's to cater 36MP files .

I guess people planning to buy D800 should also add a decent computer upgrade plus few more TB of HDDs (aka gold now) to their budget.. !!

Now take a shot from a 50mm lens or any sharp zoom lens and crop it to make a decent Macro.

So for Croppers its a macro tool too.

The lack of AA filter and opportunity for infra red photography interest me. I remember last time i was thinking of a converted DSLR for the purpose ..

I was hoping for a D800 with similar sensor as D4 with similar ISO performance... but... Well... so sad...

Let's face it... one machine can not satisfy every situation... and D800 is a gem for Studio shooters... May not be useful for Sports, Wedding and in-door high ISO shooters. Yes, even I am very dissaponted with the specs, and a D4 specs in D800 could have at least tempted me to move to Fx. Now I'll have to settle for the D4 (after I rob a bank, that is)

From a noise perspective, both are indistinguishable at ISO 6400, but going higher and Canon seems to be producing less noise.

Did not expect anything, but Canon FF seems to have improved high ISO performance quite a lot, however with the current prices D800 is a competitor to 5D mark II.

A few people in my FB contacts have bought 5D mark 3, and are posting pics taken at ISO 10k odd, and its unbelievable. Never dreamed of having usable pics at that high ISO.

I am really really happy , No not for Nikon or Canon I do not see myself owning a FF in any case in near future.

Long ago ( few months back) , there was a long and winding thread here where someone "knowledgeable" wrote about pixel pitch and noise relationship and in vain I tried establishing that it is a hubris. All this hubris was there because they do not have higher MP sensor and it will die the day they launch a higher MP sensor body. It was not too difficult to understand either, the order of wavelength of photon is nanometer ( equivalent of size) and size of pixel is in order of micron so difference of 1000 times but explaining it was like swimming against tide

IIRC you use micro 4/3 and are a full time 2X cropper isn't it

rest of stuff was actually simpler middle school level stuff then this super emotional crop funda which only seasoned phto-G can understand or appriciate
