Hey guys,

Finally bought Olympus E-PM1 mirrorless DSLR from JJMehta - Dadar :)

Actually I had zeroed in on Cannon 1100D (with IS kit lens) before going there, but Ramesh at JJMehta explained to me all the specs of E-PM1 as compared to 1100D for more than an hour.

I was satisfied with this one and bought it!  8)

Do share a brief review or your experience with EPM1 , not many over here have used the camera , so they can have a good feedback . you can make a separate thread and post some reviews on diff aspects of the camera

Sure! I will share a review... please let me know the different aspects I should cover.... I am quiet n00b with dslr-style photography...

Which type of photos should I start with?

I have tried Macro-style, long exposure(lower shutter speed for capturing vehicle lights), off-focus/bokeh (capturing street lights).....

I think it would be good to post some sample pics with the review.... :)

Thanks!  ;D

"dslr-style photography..." a new term for me..  :)

Shoot anything as you like to show them to the world... there are no constraints for photographers  besides few basic rules.
Still trying to shot my best...

Artillery: Canon 1100D and few (actually) essentials.

Here I mean to ask what type of shots will test the different aspects of the camera?

I have mentioned a few for example. What other types should I try? :)

Just go out and shoot :). That's the only advice I can give. Don't worry too much about terminology as long as you're out having fun with your new camera.

Ok guys, here are my first snaps with the new E-PM1...

http://www.jjmehta.com/forum/index.php/topic,17646.0.html

Regarding the review, this camera is great for people shifting from a P&S to DSLR.

Pros:

1. Very good and effective art filters.
2. Fast AF (though I didn't try it so much... couldn't wait to use MF)
3. Video quality is impressive with AF active during video-recording.

Cons:
1. No Viewfinder ( optional and has to be bought separately )
2. I didn't find the flash bright enough ( I had used it in AUTO mode only )
3. The 1080i video is only recorded in AVCHD format, for M-PEG4 it is 720p

Hope this helps!!!! :)

Good start.

Refer some books meant for beginners for better understanding about exposer.  Shooting with AUTO mode will not satisfy your creative aspect.

You didn't know that this camera do not have an optical View Finder? (or underestimated it's usability)

Live view always consume high battery power.

Pop-Up flash have limited capacity.. (try to avoid using it at all) if necessarily, keep object with 5-6 feet distance.

Experiment with aperture-priority, shutter-priority, and program mode.

Still trying to shot my best...

I knew about the viewfinder and battery consumption, and have no problem with it. ;)
Just mentioned it as compared to canon/nikon dslr's...

I have started reading NATGEO's Ultimate beginners guide to photography. :)

I am using shutter priority mode for a start.(only flash mode was AUTO) :P

Thanks a lot for your comments and help!

Keep 'em coming!  8)
