Any organization from where I can get an ID
« on: March 20, 2012, 03:34:46 AM »
Hi,

I am not sure if this is the right place to discuss my pain...

Many times it's happened when I (or many like me),  shoots public (gov) properties, have to deal with police/authorities and spent lot of energy and time to convince them that my intention was not bringing any disaster (or something like 26/11).
mostly they ask... are you student.. I say No..  Tourist.. say No... press.. again No.. So to meet their curiosity I have to say "I am a simple photographer"...  Again they start.. show me ID, I said what ID.. I have Driving license, PAN card with me (that's the most of the mumbaikar carry along with).. But they needed something non-existent ID which prove me as a hobbyist photographer!!

Another alternate solution is to take your family along with, then no police will ask you a single question. But it's brings another big problem.. no need to explain :)

So here I really wanted to know if there any organization exists who maintain database of their members and issue membership cards...

This is not happened with me only, but many street photographers encounter similar problems everyday..

Need your inputs and suggestions...

Thanks

Deb

Still trying to shot my best...

Artillery: Canon 1100D and few (actually) essentials.

You maybe able to apply to a photographic society in your city/state and obtain an ID from them confirming your membership and amateur status.

Just go to a printer and get a visiting card printed with your name and a logo and introducing yourself as a freelance Photographer.

+1

PS: Before shooting govt buildings/properties - please check to ensure you can shoot without permission. A number of places do need permission and/or are restricted - for example a number of the recent shots around the Gateway of India would invite the ire of the Navy as they show parts of the Naval Dockyard - photography of which is strictly prohibited (however impractical it is to stop people from photographing in that general direction).
