Canon 550D compatible lenses
« on: June 25, 2012, 06:51:31 PM »
Hello Guys,

Could you please tell me about the list of compatible lenses with 550D/600D - Make Canon or 3rd party as well?

Does it autofocus with the EF series of lens form canon or it has to be a EF-S lens for the body to autofocus as in the case on Nikon where the motor is in the lens body for AF-S series and the camera series above D90 has an inbuilt motor?

P.S - Upgrading from a Nikon D3000 and also shifting to Canon.

Regards
Satish Nadar

Welcome to the forum Satish,

Well, for canon make lenses, all EF and EF-S lenses could be mounted on 550/600D. And they all will autofocus. No motor issue like Nikon as all canon lens have AF motor in lens itself.
Canon FD lenses (old ones. no more produced) could not be mounted directly on EOS bodies. You need an adapter for it.

All third party lenses tag as canon mount could also be mounted on the body comfortably

Any canon lens will work with your Cam, except the very older manual ones.

They do work as well producing amazing results.
They Just need adapter to jump from Old age to Digital era..

Otherwise as rightly said by Ashvary, all EF/EF-S lenses do work on bodies.... Canon has that added advantage of Build in motor..

For list of available lenses, you can check this link : http://www.canon.co.in/personal/products/dslrs/lenses?languageCode=EN

Use the Nikon to EOS converter and you can use the Nikon glass as well :)
What say Vimal ?  ;D

I am the one who shifted from Nikon D3000 to Canon 450D but in 2 months I was back to Nikon, mainly because I felt more comfortable holding Nikon and am more sure of the desired results.

Pardon my ignorance! But is there a EOS - Nikon converter?? ???  Just curious  :P

Also I am very much hesitant still to move out of Nikon but upgrading to D5100 continues to limit the use of AF lenses without the built in motor. D90 is out of my budget  :-[

SNadar ignore the part in red. Insecurity about your brand makes you post about it even in threads not relevant.  ;-)

Sorry Ravi but it was invited :D

:D no issues sir, that was my personal experience. In fact most of my friends who are true PRO in India and abroad use Canons to make their living, hence I wanted to share their lenses at times so I tried my best, but I failed I guess.

OT but my experience with D7000 was mixed. It was great to handle but with long heavy lens it was easier for me to support lens with left hand and have right hand able to reach all controls (except delete button) on my 60D. While with D7000 the left sided buttons were tough to reach unless I got to support lens on something. So it's also about one's usage pattern.

there are , though very few...But few of the Nikon (and Canon as well ) may face problem with Mirror..
This is across most of the Full Frame bodies where Mirror strikes back element of Adapter and may damage the Mirror..

Canon Cropped sensors work without any flaw with them... Not sure about Nikon; someone who is using them on Nikon may light it up a bit..
