Availability of Sony DSLR/NEX Cameras in India
« on: July 02, 2012, 09:34:23 AM »
I visited several camera stores in Noida region yesterday. Almost all of them told me, that Sony is not selling NEX cameras anymore India. The cameras above 35k are being sold.  Some of the DSLR cameras such as A290Y (with Twin lens kit) is no longer available. So what you see on sony.co.in may not be rightly available in the market. Make your purchasing decisions accordingly because you may not find the camera in the market.

I spoke with sales department of Sony India, they have no Idea when the next line of NEX of affordable DSLR cameras will come in India. All they told me what, in near future these cameras will be launched.

What you are stating isn't really news. Almost everyone here knows Sony is crap in India at least and forget bodies, even lenses aren't available anymore.

This A290 and a few other models found on the Sony India site are long discontinued and only non liquidated stock is available in a few scattered shops in smaller cities.

No one in the forum (including other Sony users) ever recommend Sony cameras to anyone except if they really NEED the Sony advantages like AF in video, fast FPS on a budget or built in IS.

Thanks Brendon, Which DSLR you recommend under 30k capable of 16MP atleast. My requirement is; taking photos for close range photographs with minimum noise. My budget is tight but I really wish to be there asap. I had old camera which was 6MP but need better now.

If you are taking controlled photographs then any high MP DSLR will do as you will be able to shoot at low ISOs.

Under 30k there aren't any DSLRs > 16 MP but for 31k you can get a Canon 550D with 18 MP.

Just out of curiosity how big do you need to print to require 16 MPs ?

Thanks again Brendon. I get your point and I am sincerely obliged to have your opinion. My purpose of buying DSLR is purely commercial. I am not going to print any pictures per say on printer. I am going to use the camera for microstocks.  I am willing to make some sacrifices at my end to get a good camera. It is an investment which is going to bring great returns as well. while buying the card and my money comobo will get me this camera. I reviewed the Canon 50D, it sounds good choice, it has all the features and shoots in RAW. The only worrying part is whether this too have vanished from Indian market. I am going to research a little bit more.

I sincerely wish to avoid certain cameras such as coolpix, easyshare, Cybershots and anything which is point and shoot. My list of unfavorable cameras also include the bridge cameras.

The 50D has been discontinued a long time back. No chance of finding one new. Even used pieces sell for 35k as it was a good camera.

The 550D is a very decent camera that also shoots RAW. In fact any DSLR out there will also shoot RAW.

All the best with your journey into microstock photography. :)

Sorry there was typo when i typed canon 50D. I meant Canon 550D only as suggested by Brendon. Thanks Brendon.
