@theqca: there is still scope for significant amount of detail recovery in both pictures without sacrificing any drama in the sky if you will put in the effort. i would say that will be well worth the time you choose to spend on it . pls try.

Get closer to the subjects and use the flash, let it lighten up or increase the white balance and increase ISO. These images look good but straining the eyes. 
Photo looks good when you see them first but as dig deeper then flaws come to front. Photos are unusable for any good purpose. Every photo has its purpose besides keeping it on the disk and forgetting.

Rather severe vignetting + some under exposure in the first image detracting from the overall impact.

Second one's got a much better exposure. Just wish you had caught the scene a couple of seconds earlier and given the pair a little more room to move into on the left. Try a slight crop from the larger image and if you like it, post it here please.

To those of you on a constant upgrade path (including the rogue from a distant planet) remember, man made the camera and not the other way around ;D

Like the second one more as I feel it is a better composition. The shadow recover/noise in the first one seems more than tolerable.

2nd indeed for me..what a shot...takes you on a journey ! - more than technicals i prefer to focus on mood conveyed...and both pics does it in a way but prefer 2nd..if you had a gnd 1st could have been technically better ofcourse
