Ovalekar Wadi - One of a Kind.
« on: July 19, 2012, 02:37:50 AM »
Hello,
Most of the JJM Mumbai outing folks are well aware of Ovalekar Wadi Butterfly Garden off Thane Ghodbunder road. Infact, I think the first JJM outing happened at Ovalekar Wadi :)

For those who are not aware of the exact nature of this butterfly park, Well, its an Open butterfly park. Open butterfly park means the butterflies are not in a restricted environment via a dome or a net. They are free to wander around & select a flower of their choice to sip nectar from. ;)

So why do these butterflies visit Ovalekar Wadi. ??? The answer lies in a visit to the Garden and meet Mr Rajendra Ovalekar in person and see his passion and the tremendous efforts he puts in to educate people about butterflies. The variety of plants/flowers in the garden that are butterfly magnets & also having the right host/nectar plants that attracts so manys species of butterflies thoughout the year is truely remarkable. Sometimes you get lucky when there is presence of some butterfly experts & authors of major butterfly books in India. Of late most of the passionate visitors have been kids :)

We have been fortunate enough to have it in close vicinity where we get a chance to shoot a variety of butterflies and Mr Ovalekar has been very kind enough to guide & share his knowledge of butterflies. As a friendly gesture to support Mr Ovalekar, we (Dr Anand, Omkar, Nilesh, Rakesh) gifted Ovalekar Wadi a 6ft x 4ft Standy that would help while demonstrating the various aspects of butterflies. All pics & arranging the Standy done is courtesy Dr Anand and a big thanks to him :)

So, If you are from Mumbai or Closeby, Ovalekar Wadi is worth a Sunday Morning visit. Wishing the best of growth to Ovalekar Wadi.

Regards,
Dr Anand, Omkar, Nilesh(perfectknight), Rakesh(jadrock)

Yes I still remember our first shoot there when my bike stopped working and I reached late to Owalekarwadi.

Still remember Sam shooting butterflies with a 17-40mm L lens. :P

And if I remember correctly Nilesh came to the shoot with a 2 MP camera phone but started using Doc Anands 7D with 100-400mm L !!! :D

Good work Dr Anand...very happy to see this gesture of yours.

Rakesh, Nilesh, Dr Anand and Omkar - nice write-up!!

This place is a bit special as its the place where we first started our meet-ups and met each other in person! So its thanks to Owlekar wadi that i've made good friends like Dr Anand, Lightwave, Sam, Mukesh, Nilesh, Omkar, Rakesh, G2, RKT etc etc

No Brendon doesnt come in the good friend category..i refuse to call anyone who shoots with Videocon equipment as a friend :D

Good work in getting the display up..will surely be of benefit.
Even if it manages to ignite that spark in a dozen kids/ppl a month, it will do a great deal of good :)

Omi.. dude i actually did not click any photos with my phone.. it was just a funny way of saying i dont have a camera but i am coming any which ways to meet such passionate people...

and the BLAME for my photographic KEEDA goes to Doc. Anand... who was CRAZY enough to trust me with a SUPER expensive combo of 7D and 100-400L lens :P ... and i think i got one KADAK shot as per Doc's standards...

Had Dr. Anand not been soo generous (or foolish as some may want to think) i wouldnt have been as passionate about macros..

Thanks a lot Dr. Anand for igniting that spark ..  its currently consuming all my savings .. but I AM LOVING IT :) :)

Thanks folks :)

And if I remember correctly Nilesh came to the shoot with a 2 MP camera phone but started using Doc Anands 7D with 100-400mm L !!! :D

Good work fellows and a lovely gesture, Mr. Ovalekar must surely be happy :)

Now if you guys are in any mood to continue with the good gestures, I could really use a 5D Mark III ;D (I'm only joking but wouldn't mind if taken seriously ;))

Great initiative guys.

I must admit that I am among a few of those unlucky [read lazy] people out there who have yet not visited Ovalekarwadi. But I think, it wont be the case once I shift closer to Thane.
