We all live in a yellow submarine..
« on: July 29, 2012, 11:34:27 PM »
After having acquired the Oly 45mm, I haven't been using the 20mm as much as I'd like. So, I gave the Oly a rest this morning and shot with the 20mm. I got one photograph that reminded me as to why I still have this lens in my bag. And here is the photograph I call "We all live in a yellow submarine":

Boy-Yellow-Submarine by Veeresh_ai, on Flickr

So far, the OM-D has been performing extremely well. Gotta love this camera.

And ladies and gentleman, here's my beloved possession that I might have fallen in love with:

OM-D-Silver-1 by Veeresh_ai, on Flickr

OM-D-Silver-2 by Veeresh_ai, on Flickr

OM-D-Silver-3 by Veeresh_ai, on Flickr

The first one has been shot with the G1 + 14-45mm and the last two were shot with the G1 and Nikon 55mm f2.8 micro. They were light with a SB-28 and diffused by an A4 sheet. As always, kindly provide your valuable comments and critique.

i like yellow submarine a lot..good subject placement , catchlight in the eyes..though thats not what the beatles meant when they sang the song :p

from the pics of the camera i like the angles and the way you've diffused light....so details are visible on the silver parts of the camera too.

good work dude!

The cam shots are done very well. The texture of the metal is clearly visible giving an idea of what it would be to hold.

Thanks Soumya :). This is one toy that I have enjoyed using in a long long time.

Thanks Ayaz. I had to chase this auto as this kid was waving from the back window and I thought may be he'll make for a good subject. Fortunately, the auto hit a signal and I managed to catch up. Took just one shot and had to move on as the cars behind me were not too happy :P. I enjoyed making the camera shots, the A4 paper is the best kept secret of the strobist world ;).

Thanks Doc. I lit the silver parts from a slightly side angle w.r.to the camera to bring the texture out, it does look like noise though :).

Now those are BEAUTIFULLY DONE pics of an evenm ore beautiful subject (I'm talking about your baby, not the boy).

Nice pic of the boy too. I might have also tried one with the aperture closed down a bit to get the brilliant yellow in focus too - but yeah, getting this one shot is better than getting mowed down by Blore traffic.

Cracking lighting on the metallic body :) Does help bring out those details very well...especially the first body image.

Coming to the boy...super eye contact and that yellow frame makes it just so gripping. If you aren't averse to cloning, i'd suggest cloning out that large scratch to the top left corner

liked the submarine ... a beautiful moment caught
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

Here's a title for you camera shots..
Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? ;D
And in-case you feel like it, her's the link to the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hphwfq1wLJs :)

Well done Veeresh, Liked both the boy and the camera shots, the cam shots are really well executed.

Thanks Vikram, Hayath, Surya, Chillum Baba, Vimal, Somnath, Madhav, Point Blank, Udayan and G2 :). Really glad you guys liked the photographs.

Vikram,
When are we meeting? Unfortunately, Kaushik sent the message to both of us, so the ambush plan is out :P.

Hayath,
Not too averse to cloning, though I try to avoid it as much as possible. I should have added that glare on the auto has been cloned out, the angle was such that the glare was pretty bad. Will remove that one as well.

Udayan,
Not sure I'd call it a baby, it's a pretty strong baby :P.

G2,
Ha ha, I was thinking of another song, but I shall let it be. It's by LMFAO and please don't watch with kids, with parents or with your better half around :D. It's such a funny song (parody, btw).

EDIT: Adding another one that I made at the Lalbagh with the Nikon 55mm f2.8 micro on the OM-D.

This weekend - I'm free and vela this whole weekend. Will call you in a bit.

On the second shot of the flower: That oof flower and the leaves around it is just so impressionistic, that I might have been tempted to have the whole frame oof like that - it's absolutely beautiful!!

Ha ha, the parody videos of this one are also pretty good.

Thanks Vikram, the 55mm renders so nicely that I am surprised as to why I haven't used it much before. I wouldn't mind going back and doing a shot of these flowers again at Lalbagh :).

Ha, how did I miss this for so long!

The boy in the "submarine" is very well done. Worth framing big. I have a small nit regarding the multiple highlights in his eyes but understand that couldn't have been avoided.

The "baby" or the "comapanion" you have got is uber handsome. After using the V1, I am realising that EVFs are not all that bad. Only today I was checking B&H for the OM-D availabilty and prices. God save me from spending more money on gear.

Liked the comos too. Nice colors and OOF rendition.
