Difference in price - Nikon D3200
« on: August 09, 2012, 02:14:59 AM »
Hi,

I've decided to purchase a Nikon D3200 kit with 18-55mm lens along with the following items:
1. Tamron 70-300mm lens
2. Velbon C-500
3. Hoya HMC UV filter 52mm
4. Hoya HMC UV filter 62mm
5. Sandisk 16GB Extreme Class 10
6. Scratchguard

Stores in Fort area are offering me a price of around 46,000/- however, at JJ Mehta, I have been quoted 49,500/- and after trying to negotiate for over 30 minutes, they didn't bring it further down. They stated that the stores at Fort (and Alfa as well) replace batteries / cables in the package and the UV filters they offer may be duplicate.

Does the difference in price only exist because JJM has a name for itself, or these problems actually exist.

I'm in a real dilemma as to where I should buy the camera from. Please give me your suggestions.

Thanks,
Kalpit

I must add that the stores at Fort are providing bill and warranty.

And Im not sure if this thread should be here, the Moderators may move it to the appropriate place.

So would you rather save the 3 grand or prefer buying it at a considerably higher price at JJM?

Here's the complete breakdown of the best deal I got at Fort (Centura Store):
Kit - 32,750
Tamron - 8,500
Hoya 52mm - 800
Hoya 62mm - 1,100
Velbon C-500 - 2,500
SD Card - 1,400
Total - 46, 250 (after discount)

At JJM:
Kit - 35,000
Tamron - 9,000
Hoya 52mm - 950
Hoya 62mm - 1,260
Velbon C-500 - 2,980
SD Card - 1,600
Total - 49,500 (after discount)

my personal experience:

go for the brand new sealed pack stuff as far 'camera gear' is concerned, Bill and Warranty are rarely required for a person who is a hobby shooter (this is an interesting survey result).
UV filters are no good unless they are genuine and you are shooting at high altitudes.
I remember someone writing, if UV filters were so good, everyone would have been wearing them in front of their eyes too.
In my 40 years of photography, just 2 times I needed to take my cameras for repair,1st being Canon AE-1 PROGRAM and other being NIKON F3HP, btw all my life I have bought without bill and warranty and mostly 2nd hand equipment.
Just my last cam i.e. Nikon D3000 I had to buy with B+W because difference was less than 1K. :)
So just chill and save the bucks.

You can safely buy from Fort, pls ensure for SEALED box only check it first if stuck with any cello tape and open it in front of you.

all are fake which they give for free >:(
Bargain with shopkeeper say give me 100 bucks discount, say dont want UVF ;)

Ravi Sir,
I agree Bill and warranty is not required as 95% doesnt see the face of the Service centre. But an amateur like me who will be buying a camera after saving for months from his salary will always want to be on the safer side. More than the hard earned money its the more hard saved money makes the concern here.  :P
An amateur will always be finnicky about these stuffs regarding quality, Package tampering, Improper bill etc etc. and so is the title rendered to us as "Newbie" on the forum as well as in reality.  ;)
However, Fort prices are tempting but an amateur wont mind spending those extra bucks for getting secured of what he is buying.

Francis.
Does Nikon package have a special sealing or something with the tape being printed with the brand name or company name or something like that??

I guess, buying with bill n warranty must be personal decision...
I brought my cam with warranty.. later messed up with focusing screen, got it replaced for free in Service center.
brought canon 50mm with warranty, broke it, got it repair from local shop (no canon SC in my city) for 100 bucks.. however focusing was giving issue... Went to service center and they fixed it up for free as warranty was there.

However, my mobile and and other lens is without warranty and touchwood, nothing happened..

You know, another thing they mentioned at JJM was, the supposed 'replaced battery' at Fort stores, they last only 100 snaps before needing a charge, while the original one lasts for 400+ snaps.

Messed up information. No idea what to make of it. :|

I dont think that should be a problem. A genuine and a duplicate battery are way different in looks and appearance from each other.

That happens quite often. Basically the shop keepers open the box from the bottom (so the seal is intact). They swap the original battery and charger and insert a duplicate battery/charger and sell that box as grey market item.

In fact a shop keeper did that in front of a friend of mine. :P

if you dont know what ur buying / are new to dslr's imho stick to jjmpf...i've never had a bad experience with Kartik or his dad Deepakbhai and have found them to be honest. They charge a bit more but you'd rather pay 3k more and have peace of mind...

what i've purchased from them so far is some filters, 2 camera bodies, 4 lenses...all this was a really long time ago and i've moved on to other camera bodies and lenses since then..but i would still recommend them as ppl who can be trusted even today.
