I bought a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 Non VC for Canon mount for INR 18k in Feb 2011 with B&W. Nikon mount was for the same price.

@ Aces ,Francis what was the reason for getting non VC lens?

The Non VC is known to be sharper, besides with a wider aperture, IS is not as important. I for one, have never missed IS on the lens, sure if it was a longer focal length then IS would be a blessing but at this focal length not so.

Francis: The price just seems to be inching upwards, I had got it for 18k with B&W, and in 2010 the price was 17k. And its not a phenomenon for this particualr lens, I have seen the prices inch up every year. Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 was for 27k 2 years back, and now its closer to 34k, same is the case with Tamron 70-200 f2.8 prices have increased 3k since last year. Makes me think to take a risk and order it from someone coming down from the US...

These rates are from indian sellers. What you get for 18000 in grey costs 20000 in kolkata .. courtesy Tanveer. Tanveer have been jacking up the prices since a long time .

BTW Doc Souvik from where you got the pricing. Lets buy is offering 19300 for B&W . I hope I can get it for 18k in kolkata somewhere...
Perhaps they are pricing the items based on the customers. The newer ones shell out more than the older ones... :(

there were better reviews for non vc than vc lens also price diff of about 8k more for vc.Focal length not much so quite steady while taking shots.Yes there is a shortage of this particular lens 17-50, had to wait for 4-hours at DN road, the dealer had to personally pick it up from distributor.Overall very happy with this lens-My first

May be not really relevant with this post, but I bought Tamron 17-50 VC in Bangalore for 25K in early 2010. Though the Non-VC lens gets a better review, I am very much satisfied with the VC version. It gives me an added advantage at low light photography, and the results are quite good.
