Which DSLR you own? [Cast your votes]
« on: May 23, 2011, 08:39:24 PM »
Fellow Members,

We have been on discussions, Which DSLR we own, Canon, Nikon, Sony or some other brands? Why cant we have a poll? :)
Sounds good and seems interesting...lets see.. please post in your votes. This will give us a rough estimate of how many people use
  which brands  of DSLRs

   > If some members own more than one brand, please vote for that brand you like.
   > This poll is about DSLR's not for PS.

Remember, Only one vote can be posted by a member and cannot be changed..so vote carefully...

Thank you

Hello Arun, What if a person owns both the brands canon & nikon or Nikon + other brand or Canon + other brand. Why I'm asking this is bc'oz I was able to select only one brand at a time...was confused so just thought to share .... ;)

though its not mandatory to take part in the poll, but would like to share some thoughts on it

i think a poll seems fair only when a person has got hands on diff models of diff companies & i gues of the same price range...

If i own a Cannon, & if i have never used Nikon, that doesn't make Cannon is the only best brand. Thats just in my thoughts coz I think that the product is VFM

OR

even if get to use a canon 500D & a Nikon D3s, i am sure i will vote for Nikon, but then it doenst make it the best in town. Coz again its like comparing Apples n Oranges

I think a poll saying, " which brand do you use?", sounds good...& fair enough for every one to participate

No hard feelings but just putting in some facts

Thanks for your time.

Team, this poll is not to prove which one is the BEST, but how many own what? IF I own a Canon , yes i need to press Canon, else If I got Nikon Gears, then yes press Nikon.

But if someone own Both Canon and Nikon, then also no issue, they will be using anyone more than the other and have a soft-corner towards that.. select that...

This thread will help us to know how many jjmf members use Canon and how many use Nikon. Simple...

Simple... We can prove which is the best using a simple poll here... :)

The first statement vs the last statement in your reply above ... ... so which is it??

BTW - with Canon's larger market share in the market segment we represent (amateur and advanced amateur) - you really won't need a poll like this. It's easily visible in any of Smart Photography's issues.

Vikram, Shall I remove the poll?

I am not able to understand why our fellow members don't think positive.. This poll is just to see, how many jjmf members are using Canon and how many are using Nikon. Not the understand the Canons market share or Nikon market share or something huge like that...

Hope you got it now and I know this will not be accurate also, some may vote, some may not...anything can happen.. just to see... Please relax and do your voting....

No need to remove the poll - if Vikram's approval is needed to remove then by default Vikram's permission would also be needed to create one  ;). Its one of the most popular polling topics across so many photography forums. However Vikram raised a valid point - you just needed to clarify. You contradicted yourself - at least so it seems to me.

Arun - great idea. Remove the poll.

And then you ask me why I can't be positive??

My question was directed on what were you trying to measure through this poll? (unless you want me to just shut up and sit quietly in class and only answer the question I was asked).

From the way you've stated the question - you'll get a simple reply to the question of "Which camera make do the majority of owners on JJM who reply to this poll own?" i.e. which has the larger market share. You will NOT get which is better.

As a person with well over a decade in marketing and with considerable amount of experience in Market Research - I thought I'd point out an error in your methodology and perhaps make a list of questions that indicated which features people thought most important when buying a camera and then follow up with a list of which cameras people thought best embodied those functions ..... but your idea is much better - remove the poll.

Well on a lighter note it will be interesting to see the results of this poll. Its clear that most of the people will either be using a nikon or a canon due to their easy availability and after sale services in India. There is not such thing like "Canon is the best or nikon is the best". It should rather be "Canon fits my requirements or a "Nikon fits my requirements".

Personally I am a Big pentax fan, not because of any special reason its just that I love pentax. I did not purchase it at this stage due to some reasons like non-availability in India, lack of funds being the primary reason due to which I did not take the risk of getting it from overseas. Just purchased a canon for reasons like :- most lens are supported by the canon bodies, Some good lens are available at cheap prices, 50mm prime and autofocus ability of the canon body with it. I did not have any plans of purchasing any costly lens in the next 3-4 years. Canon system provides cheap lens in 50mm prime and 55-250mm IS for most of the photographic opportunities.

Though I did love to try my hands on pentax, nikon and sony in the future as the age advances and I start earning money. The choice of purchasing a canon DSLR I made now was not based on "which brand is the best", but purely according to my requirements and gut feeling.

Regards,
Ashish Desai.
Gear : Canon EOS 1000D with 18-55mm Non IS and 50 mm 1.8 II prime lens.

As I can see, the topic for the poll is "Which DSLR you own?" - lets leave the debate aside and go with the polling. Thank You all.

Now one more question... Is this poll only for DSLR owners? I don't own a DSLR as of now. People own P & S can't participate in this poll.

I would rather say to OP , kindly change a poll. Many people get their head eaten by these polls. If its like you want to compare market share, its no use. We have a lot of NIKON users as well as canon users. But what is the point. What about the Pentax and Sony(so called videocon) users :( ..
I find no point in this Poll, though I own a Canon :P

I am sorry for not clarifying all the doubts before starting this poll. A lot of questions raised and some were provoking. I have started this poll just to know how many of us are using which brand DSLR.

Updated the thread now. Hope all of you will cooperate. If any doubts, pls raise.. will update the thread/poll accordingly.

Hi GUYZ & Gals [are they any out here  ::) ] - CHILL OUT..... This is just a random sample poll. And just vote - if applicable.

I would be interested at the end to see the results and especially to know the "total count". Nothing else - canon; nikon; sony - etc; etc all are just the tools  ;D

So far just 15 members have voted [what's the total count of JJMF's members ???] - and when does this voting end ? Methinks - keep it going till June 10th or so !
