Any idea about the Simpex VT 531 or Simpex 999 speedlites
« on: January 23, 2013, 07:25:52 PM »
Hi friends,

Recently I came across two very cheap, manual zoom speedlite from Simpex in Smartshoppers.in.

and
http://www.smartshoppers.in/product/simpex-999-power-zoom-flash/

I already own the cheaper Simpex 522 and found that usuable. But as it doesn't have zoom capability, I want to buy either one of these two. So, I would like to ask, have anyone got any idea about these two speedlites?

I saw this flash at Image fair in New Delhi. Simpex 999 is huge flash. Look and feel is OK. Took some test shot and was working fine. Tagged with Indian warranty, it seems a better flash. Price is very reasonable for 999 model.

Hi Binoy,
Simplex 999 is a good and costs very less if you are looking for more light.. It has inbuilt diffuser and when it is pop out zoom automatically goes back to 24mm.. I has manual zoom which can be set from 24-105mm. It's head can easily swivel all around what u expect in a high end flash. Has got sync port and external power input. It can be used as an externally flash if it sees another flash or be triggered using pocket wizards. It also has a metal shoe. Only drawback I noticed was that it takes lot of time to recharge...

I have never dared to use directly on my brand new nikon d5200.. and thats why i use it externally thru radio triggers...

Thanks for the detailed info. And I can give you one information. I have used the Simpex 522 on my D3200 many times, and it was completely safe. So I assume, this one will be safe too. BTW can you inform me about the guide no of this flash? I didn't get this information on the site.
